Start Your Own Business

 

We can help you develop your new business, right from the moment that you have the idea! There are different programmes which are all designed to take your idea and make it a reality.  This includes:

 

Exploring Enterprise – for you if you are not ready to set up a business yet but want to understand more about enterprise and entrepreneurship. You may be already working and considering the idea of self-employment.  You can get a Certificate in Business Enterprise. 

 

Go For It Programme – you can access free training through this programme to help equip you with all the skills and knowledge you will need to get started.  You can get training in managing finances, IT, employing staff and much more.

Business Improvement Techniques

 

The B-IT programme is available for manufacturing businesses and is aimed at reducing costs and improving productivity by enabling employees to achieve quality, cost and delivery improvements in the workplace.  Staff successfully completing the programme will receive a qualification.   The cost of £1,600 per individual is waived.

 

For example:

John Huddleston Engineering, has saved over £20,000 on consultancy costs thanks to SERC.  The B-IT programme helped this company to make improvements aimed at reducing cost, minimising waste and improving productivity.

Renewable Energies

 

We are an Action Renewables Academy and have specialisms in Biomass and Ground Source Heat Pumps.  We run seminars, workshops and training programmes advising businesses and individuals on how to reduce energy costs. 

We are also the only NI providers of the BRE (Building Research Establishment) Energy Assessment training.

 

The development of Northern Ireland’s first passive house, a house which is built to have no or little impact on the environment.  The project will be developed in partnership between South Eastern Regional College, University of Ulster, the NI Energy Agency, NIE, NIHE and developers, JC Enterprises, NLM and SAKRET NI.

 

For example:

We partnered with Carbon Zero NI and Action Renwables to deliver a seminar on Sustainable Retrofit Solutions at the Pump-House, Northern Ireland Science Park.  The seminar outlined sustainable solutions for home owners focusing on how improvements could be made to exiting dwellings to improve energy efficiency and eradicate energy wastage in homes.

Innovation Management

 

Do you want to develop a new idea for your business but have a skills or knowledge gap? Do you have less than 50 employees and annual turnover of up to £10 million?  Avoid interrupting your day to day business and work with SERC.  We can help you access up to £4,000 worth of free services to help you innovate.  Services can include:

For example:

The Frying Squad, a food franchise chain throughout NI, partnered with us to develop their market expansion plans.  They wanted to enter the Republic of Ireland market.  We carried out research for them and advised on location planning. They are now progressing their plans.
