Bespoke Training in Communication Technologies
The Brief
SERC staff met with BT Managment to assess the training needs of the organisation particularly in the area of job assessment. The brief which came from this assessment was to implement training for BT staff in Communications Technologies aimed at improving self sufficency in job assessment
The Solution
The bespoke training programme which SERC put in place would usually be carried out over two years, however it was condensed into an intensive three month period through planning and application. The training was co-ordiated by Shirley Montgomery, an Engineering Lecturer at SERC and delivered at the BT Training Centre and also involved on-the-job assessment.
The Outcome
Lindsay Reid, Learning and Development Manager at BT commented: 'BT has reaped enormous benefits through the partnership with SERC. The quality of teaching delivered a successful outcome with the apprentices securing their BTEC Certificates. BT now has eight engineers, focussed on specific aspects of work who, following an intensive three month induction training period, are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out thir job'
