South Eastern Regional College (SERC) Beauty Therapy students Leigh Mulholland and Elaine Mottram, who study at the Bangor campus have realised their dreams by securing jobs on the world famous Steiner Cruise Ships. For over fifty years, Steiner Cruise Ships, has been synonymous with quality spa and salon services and therapists who are employed to cruise all over the world while they work.
Leigh and Elaine are currently studying NVQ level 3 Beauty Therapy which they are due to complete in June. On completion of their course they will embark on a six week training programme at the Steiner School in London which will prepare them for life at sea. They will then spend nine months in exotic locations in the Mediterranean and Caribbean.
The girls joined the College to study level 2 Beauty Therapy and upon successful completion they progressed to the level 3 qualification which provided them with the necessary qualifications to seek employment with Steiner Cruise Ships. Each year the College invites representatives from Steiner into the College to give a presentation to students on opportunities available to them. At this point Leigh and Elaine applied for a position with Steiner and were invited for a ‘Trade Test’ to ascertain their suitability to working at sea, after passing the test they were invited for interview in Belfast and were successful in securing employment.
Leigh, who hails from Millisle had this to say about securing a job that will allow her to travel the world; “I am over the moon to get a job with Steiner, this is a dream come true. I’ve been studying Beauty Therapy at SERC for three years and the reason I chose this area of study was so that I could work on cruise ships. I owe a lot to my lecturers who have been very helpful and supportive throughout my time with the College.”
