SERC has delivered a bespoke training course to BT (British Telecom) aimed at equipping eight apprentices with the necessary qualification and skills to prepare them for a career as a telecommunications engineer.
The College delivered a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Communications Technologies aimed at improving self sufficiency in job assessment. The course was delivered at the BT Training Centre and also involved on-the-job assessment. The programme usually requires two years of study however it was condensed into an intensive three month period through planning and application.
Lindsay Reid, Learning and Development Manager at BT commented; “BT has reaped enormous benefit through the partnership with SERC. The quality of teaching delivered a successful outcome with the apprentices securing their BTEC certificates. BT now has eight engineers, focussed on a specific aspect of work who, following an intensive three month induction training period, are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out their job.”
SERC is a centre of excellence in electronic engineering with experience of working with companies to delivered bespoke training. In the past the College has successfully delivered training courses to BT.
Kieran McKenna, Head of School for Manufacturing and Electrical Engineering had this to say; “SERC consider the provision of bespoke training to local companies as a key part of the FE Means Business Ethos. Telecommunications is a priority skill area so the success of this programme and similar programmes will help equip the local economy with skilled engineers who are key players in the development of the region.”
